Event description
Join Queer fiber artist, Michael Sylvan Robinson for a night of textile collage, activism and collaboration.

About this Event

Join Queer fiber artist, Michael Sylvan Robinson, TAC's Work in Progress resident for October, for a night of art activism, healing, and collaboration as we transform fear into action and service.

Inspired by street and protest art and rooted in socially-engaged art practice, Sylvan invites participants into their process of creating a new sculptural garment, part of an ongoing series entitled #urbanfey protective wear for urban faeries.

In this workshop, participants will be working together to name and release their fears, and then hand-stencil those fears into a textile collage work to be transformed into the fabric for the sculptural garment. The fabric communally created will be a metaphorical “compost” through an art-activist and healing collaborative process that reaffirms and strengthens our collective and individual commitments to caring service and loving action.

Michael Sylvan Robinson is an internationally exhibited contemporary Queer fiber artist, activist, and leader in arts education. During his residency at Work In progress, Sylvan will be creating a new piece for his #urbanfey series of protective wear for urban faeries, created as interventions of healing and activism amidst the challenging times in which we are living right now.

Learn more about their work HERE or visit their studio at TAC's Work In Progress (Manhattan studio) on Saturdays, from 2-5pm.
