It’s time to get your garden started and QBG is giving away FREE compost to celebrate!
About this event
The NYC Compost Project Hosted by Queens Botanical Garden is giving away FREE compost! Staff will be present to assist and load 7.5 gallon bags of compost into your vehicle. The compost is made from residential food scraps collected locally and processed at QBG. Limit of 5 bags per registrant. This event takes place in QBG’s Parking Garden at 42-80 Crommelin Street, Flushing, NY.
Compost is for NYC residents only. All registrants must show proof of ID upon entry; name on ID must match registration. Only one session registration is allowed per household; multiple-session registration will result in cancellation of one session.
Businesses and commercial vehicles will not be served. If you are interested in larger volumes of compost, please contact us at compost@queensbotanical.org or 718.539.5296.
FREE. Registration required.
Two registration times are available: 10:30am-12pm & 1-1:30pm. Please note that you will not be given compost during these times if you have not registered.
****We will also be hosting an open session from 1:30- 2:30pm to distribute any left over bags of compost. It It will be an hour time period for individuals who were not able to register for a time slot and would still like to receive compost. Individuals do not need to register for this open session, but are only eligible if they did not already receive compost. This is on a first come first serve basis, until we run out!***

HEALTH & SAFETY
- To prevent the spread of COVID-19 and for the health and safety of all visitors, follow our current health & safety guidelines, found on our website: https://queensbotanical.org/know-before-you-go
- Outdoors, vaccinated visitors and staff are not required to wear masks, regardless of distancing. Individuals may choose to still wear masks. Unvaccinated visitors are required to wear masks.
- Indoors, individuals 12 and older are required to show proof they have received two vaccine doses, except for those who have received the one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Showing proof of vaccination and photo ID is required to enter buildings onsite. Children ages 5 to 11 are required to have proof of vaccination to entire buildings onsite. They must show they have received at least one dose of a vaccine. We accept the CDC Vaccination Card, the Excelsior Pass, and the NYC COVID Safe App (Android | iOS).
- Indoors, masks must be worn.
- Hand sanitizer dispensers are available at multiple stations throughout the Garden.
- High-touch surfaces are disinfected throughout the day.

Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) occasionally photographs or films visitors and activities on site to support our mission in promotional media and materials, including print, online, broadcast, and social media. By attending this event, you grant permission to QBG use your likeness in perpetuity, in all forms of print and digital media used to promote, publicize, or advertise the Garden, its activities, and programs. If you do not give QBG permission to take and use your image, you must notify an event organizer or staff when you arrive for this event. QBG is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

By public transportation, take the number 7 subway line to Main Street, the Long Island Rail Road (Port Washington line) to Main Street/Flushing, or the Q44-SBS or Q20 bus.
