Event description

Description

On Nov 16, we will explore the Different Kinds of Complexity. Just as there are different kinds of lakes and oceans, people, and organizations, so are there different kinds of complexity. Know the differences that make the difference. Please join us for another lively conversation.

Space is limited. Reserve your seat now.

Background

Are you facing more unintended consequences? Are carefully conceived plans going awry? Do unexpected events emerge out of nowhere? Does a small change get blown out of proportion? And at other times do extensive and expensive efforts come to nothing? If so, you are in the midst of a Complex situation ... while thinking it is something else.

Decode Complexity and Enrich Your Professional Network

Join us for an evening including a short talk, informal discussions, and happy hour networking. All are welcome. Bring an open mind and stories to share. You do not need to be a member of the Metropolitan Club to attend. Feel free to bring friends and colleagues. One registration per person.

Complexity isn't a frontier. It's already here.

Complexity used to only concern governments, their militaries and large corporations. With exponentially increasing technology, media and the international Internet of everything, Complexity now affects all of us – in our work and in our lives. We know this from the above symptoms, our resulting frustrations and lack of intended results.

Despite all the changes in the world, most people haven’t realized how much the world has changed. Or what these changes mean. They know most everything is more confusing, complicated, complex or something. Most often, they confuse something being Complicated – like their car or smartphone or even a process at work for a situation being Complex – like their health, social media or a management strategy. It turns out these are two completely different environments – really different worlds – that require very different mindsets to succeed.

Complexity is a new territory that needs a different kind of situation awareness and decision-making – a new framework with new concepts, questions, and strategies to take advantage of it. It is an education none of us are getting. And not just for governments, corporations, and techies, but for executives, entrepreneurs, all of us.

Complexity is all around us and within us, as well. It can lead to conflict and confusion. If you could be aware of its dynamics and aspects, you could apply strategies that increase your degrees of freedom.

Outline
At each session, new topics will be introduced and discussed. Here is a brief outline and takeaways of what we had discussed so far. There will be an in-depth seminar/workshop coming soon to Chicago area.

- Complicated vs Complexity: Apply better Decision Making for the situation accordingly.
- Various Perception About The World: Know the limitation and bias.
- Six Essential Aspects of Complexity: Recognize The Cues.
- Mindsets and multiple ways to utilize, leverage and influence complex situations: Professional applications, e.g. Studio Strategies™ on dealing with complexity perceptions and situations. (Read more)
