Free Workshops on Supply Chain/Logistics Engineering Technology available to High School and Community College Educators!

 

The NSF funded Collaboration Of Midwest Professionals for Logistics Engineering Technology Educators (COMPLETE) will be sponsoring a 1 day workshop at Oakton Community College’s Skokie, IL campus.  Workshop topics include Classroom Activities for the Internet of Things (IoT) and Automated Inventory with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).  The day (Oct 18) will be devoted to the coverage of these topics and their impact upon managing inventory, source and purchasing decisions, manufacturing, distribution and transportation.  

 

Participation is open to US residents representing academic institutions and is free of charge, with priority enrollment supporting those applicants who intend to offer a module associated with supply chain/logistics engineering technology at their home institution.  A continental breakfast, lunch and break out snacks will be provided by the National Science Foundation.  Accommodations for Thursday , Oct 17 and or Friday Oct 18 will be provided at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, 9599 Skokie Blvd., Skokie, IL 60777.  A block of rooms has been reserved until October 7, 2019.  Transportation between the hotel and the campus will be made available.   Limited travel support is available on a first come first serve basis.  If you are in need of accommodations, please contact somplski@oakton.edu or 847-635-1975.


 

The COMPLETE Workshops on Supply Chain/Logistics Engineering Technology for Faculty will take place at Oakton's Skokie Campus, 7701 Lincoln Ave., Skokie, IL 60077 on Friday, October 18 from 8am-4pm.  Enrollment is free and is available on a first come, first serve basis.  Seats are limited, so don't hesitate to apply.  Lunch will be included for those who participate in two workshops on the same date.

The class starts at a very basic level, but exposure to IT terms, basic networking and some programming language is a plus. Course contains hands-on activities provided by Cisco network academy

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

The Skokie campus is located approximately 1 1/2 miles east of the Edens Expressway (I-94) and 10 miles east of O'Hare Airport.   Access to the campus parking lots is available from either Lincoln Ave. or Niles Ave. entrances.

 

Public transportation

The Pace Bus No. 210 stops in front of the Skokie campus on Lincoln Avenue.  You can also travel to the campus by the Chicago Transit Authority's Yellow Line.  The Skokie-Oakton station is located near the intersection of Skokie Valley Blvd. and Oakton St., which is approximately 3 blocks north-east of the campus.

 

Via the Edens Expressway (I-94)

From North: Exit Edens Expressway at Dempster Street East. Drive east on Dempster to Niles Center Road. Turn right on Niles Center Road and continue to Lincoln Avenue. Turn left on Lincoln to the Ray Hartstein Campus entrance.

From South: Exit Edens Expressway at Touhy Avenue East. Drive north on Skokie Boulevard to Lincoln Avenue. Turn left on Lincoln to the Ray Hartstein Campus entrance.

 

What is the reimbursement process?

Costs associated with attending the workshops that involve accommodations will be reimbursed to attendees after submission of the event reimbursement form.  Attendees must complete the reimbursement form that will be distributed at the event and provide original receipts to the following address:

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring your printed ticket to the workshop.  This will enable staff to determine the correct amount of classroom consumables to have on hand for the meeting.

Collaboration of Midwest Professionals for Logistics Engineering Technology Education (COMPLETE)

Based on the strong logistics infrastructure in Chicago, Dayton, Columbus, and the Midwest in general, this NSF ATE grant will work to provide firms with technologically educated logistics employees to help support the growing supply chain industry. The overall project goal is to provide technician education by expanding career pathways for logistics engineering technicians to support the increasingly complex technology needs of the supply chain sector while connecting program graduates to employment opportunities in a variety of industries.
