Getting From Very Good to Great:
Making Complete Communities in the University District of Minneapolis
A Forum with Gil Penalosa
Wednesday, May 7, 2014
We are honored to host renowned speaker Gil Penalosa, a lifelong advocate for vibrant cities and healthy communities, and the design and use of parks and streets as great public places.
Following remarks by Mr. Penalosa, a panel of local experts and advocates will consider:
- What are the most critical elements of "complete communities" for those working on local initiatives here in the Twin Cities?
- What role do open spaces and parks have in framing the specific brand or identity of the University District (or any community)?
- What are the greatest challenges facing the implementation of bike and walking initiatives?
- The University District's streets have the highest bike and pedestrian counts in the region. What are best strategies for taming conflicts between travel modes, specifically bikes/pedestrians as well as bikes/vehicles?
