Description

Join us for our annual Opening Exhibit of artwork by middle and high school students from Hawaii. The exhibit will be on display until November 11 but if you're able to join us at the Opening, we will recoginze the finalists and announce the winners. Light refreshment and entertainment will be provided. This event is open to all ages and completely free thanks to our partners at the Honoluu Museum of School Art.

Eligibility
Any Hawaii student in grades 6 to 12 grade may participate. One entry per student.

Age Categories
Finalists will be chosen from each grade 6 to 12.

Winners
• Finalists will be notified by email or phone no later than Monday, October 23...www.alohaharvest.org.
• All artwork will be on display at the HMAS from October 27 to November 11.
• All participants will receive a certificate of participation.

Artwork Theme
The theme for Compassion in Arts 2017 is Compassion for the Hungry and Homeless in Hawaii. We want to see what this topic inspires in you. Ask yourself how can show you compassion for those who are in need. Aloha Harvest is a food rescue program that helps other organization feed the hungry.

Media & Technique Requirements
Any of the following media or techniques may be used:
• Paint (watercolor, tempera, poster, acrylic, etc.)
• Drawing materials (pencil, charcoal, colored chalk, pastels, oil pastels, markers, etc.)
• Collage materials (cut & glued papers, tissues paper, wrapping, aluminum foil, etc.)
• Prints (handmade stencils, gadget printing, block prints, computer graphics, etc.)
• Sculpting materials (clay, paper mache, etc.)
• Original digital illustration
• Photography

Rules
1. Two-dimensional artwork should be done on at least construction paper/cardstock or
anything thicker. If using copy paper, it must be matted or framed.
2. Three-dimensional artwork must be transportable and be able to stand alone
3. Label artwork with your first and last name in the back so it is not visible in the front.

Judging Criteria
A panel of judges will review entries by grade level based on the following criteria:
• Interpretation of the theme
• Technical skill
• Originality

Copyright Law
Any artwork that depicts copyrighted images will be rejected. For example, no artworks depicting characters from television shows, movies, video games, or books will be accepted. All artwork must be original ideas and created entirely by the student.

Deadline for Entries
All entries must be received no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, October 6, 2017. Mail or drop off entries to Aloha Harvest 3599 Waialae Avenue #23 Honolulu, Hawaii 96816. Our office is on the 2nd floor of the First Hawaiian Bank in Kaimuki. Regular office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5:30 pm.
