Event description
A brief (8 weekly sessions)support group for early career mental health professionals who are concerned about compassion fatigue or burnout.

About this Event

Who helps the helper? Our supervisors and colleagues tell us to make sure we attend to self-care, and they're right, but when and how, with the demands of our professions and especially during this challenging period in our society?? Who helps the helper keep compassion fatigue at bay and restore compassion resilience?

This is a virtual support group for early career mental health professionals (i.e., unlicensed and licensed counselors, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists) who have concerns about their own compassion fatigue and/or burnout. The group will have structured and unstructured elements. The group will last 8 sessions with a possibility of extension. This is a professional group, considered supportive, and mental health referrals can be made if needed.

In true support mode, the facilitator will encourage support and care among group members as they share how professional and personal lives are pandemic-altered despite ongoing professional demands to provide mental health care.

In more structured modes, the facilitator will foster discussion of members' self-care regimens before and after the pandemic; elaborate on how mental health professionals can keep their practice fresh and rejuvenated; and refine methods for identifying compassion fatigue in order to re-tool for compassion resiliency.

The group is facilitated by Dr. David Kasson, a Philadelphia-area licensed psychologist who works with professional adults and college students who struggle with anxiety, depression and trauma disorders, and with life transition issues. The cost is $20 per session - save time by paying ahead for all 8 sessions for the cost of 7.
