‘Compact Living’ is a signature exhibition curated by the Toronto Design Offsite Festival in partnership with Umbra. Exploring fresh, and original houseware prototypes for contemporary compact living, the exhibition showcases new work by 11 Canadian artists and designers.
Artists and designers Aubry / Levesque, Chifen Cheng, Alissa Coe, Libs Elliott, Kathryn Walter/FELT, Simone Ferkul, Harbour, Hinterland Design, Char Kennedy, Linus Kung, and Rainville-Sangaré, come together for this exhibition, which takes a realistic look at the current state of housing in urban centres where property is expensive and hard to come by. In Toronto alone, average condo sizes have shrunk by over 100 square feet in the last ten years, resulting in a trend towards making small spaces more livable and efficient. We need objects that make compact living exceptional.
A jury will recognize the best-in-show with a Best Product award, and a cash prize. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to cast their vote to award Fan Favourite.
Funding provided by the Toronto Arts Council.
