Event description

Description

Now in its 30th year, Como Friends ZooBoo is a non-scary, family-friendly Halloween event that benefits Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. This magical 4 night event offers families a safe trick-or-treating alternative plus many Halloween surprises such as animal visitors, live entertainment and craft projects. Perfect for kids 3-8 year old. All proceeds from this fundraiser help the plants and animals at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Thrive!

2017 is a special milestone year for ZooBoo. Not only is it the 30th Anniversary of the event but it is also the final year of ZooBoo in its current design. Thanks to the incredible support from our attendees, volunteers, donors, partnering organizations, and the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory staff, this family tradition has been a wonderful fundraiser for Como Friends and Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. Due to significant construction of a new Seals and Sea Lions habitat in the heart of the campus -- and a need to refresh ZooBoo, it will come to a close this year and we will launch something new in 2019.

Tickets can be used any of the 4 nights of ZooBoo! ZooBoo will be held rain or shine and tickets are non-refundable. Early Bird Discount tickets will stop being sold on October 21 at 3:00 pm.

FAQs

Who needs a ticket?

All children who want to trick-or-treat must have a ticket. Children who are under two-years-of-age and not trick-or-treating are free. All adults must have a ticket.

Does my child need to bring a trick-or-treat bag?

Yes, children are encouraged to bring their own reusable treat bag.

What age group is ZooBoo for?

ZooBoo is best suited for children up to age 8.

What kind of treats will the kids get?

Children will get about 10 treats…a variety of items from candy to educational material to stickers.

Should my child wear a costume?

We do encourage kids to wear costumes – but ZooBoo is an outdoor event, so make sure to dress appropriately for the weather.

When is the best time to attend ZooBoo?

Typically the first weekend of ZooBoo (Oct. 21-22) is less busy than the second weekend (Oct. 28-29). Sundays are also lighter than Saturdays. Most guests come between 4:30-6:00 p.m., so the crowds are lighter after 6:00 pm each evening.

Where do I park?

ZooBoo guests are encouraged to use the FREE park and ride shuttle service during ZooBoo. The lot is a State Fair parking lot located on the south side of Como Avenue across from the State Fair’s grounds. The shuttle runs from approximately 4:00 - 8:15pm each evening.

Will the animals be out during ZooBoo?

Most animals will not be out. The animals normally go to bed at 4 p.m. in October and ZooBoo begins after bedtime. However, some animals that sleep outside, such as the bison and Dall’s sheep may be visible during ZooBoo. Also the Polar Bears will have access to their outside exhibit during ZooBoo but we can’t guarantee that they’ll be visible.

Where does the money go?

ZooBoo is a fund raiser for Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. ZooBoo is produced by Como Friends, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire community generosity to advance Como Park Zoo and Conservatory as a destination where people from all walks of life can gather, learn, and enjoy the natural world.
