Community Volunteer Day: Forest Restoration
Date and time
Join VCPA in removing non-indigenous winged euonymus (Euonymus alatus) from the Northwest Forest.
About this event
Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx contains 640 acres of forest and freshwater wetlands. Join VCPA in maintaining this important ecosystem. The Northwest Forest in particular is mainly derived of an oak-hickory community in the canopy. Winged euonymus, also known as burning bush, is a non-indigenous and invasive shrub species commonly planted in yards. It threatens the recruitment of oaks and hickories in the understory and limits the biodiversity of the forest and has populated the understory of the Northwest Forest. Volunteers will assist VCPA staff in removing the winged euonymus from the forest.
