Event Details

Hello Everyone,

I’m writing to let you know that Main Street Project, Free Press and the Center for Media Justice are co-hosting a public hearing on the first Future of the Internet in Minneapolis on Aug. 19, 2010. The event will feature FCC Commissioners Michael Copps and Mignon Clyburn and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie.
Members of the community are invited to attend and share their comments with the FCC Commissioners.

We are looking for at least 20 community members who represent various constituencies (homeless, communities of color, working families, poor, students, immigrants, LGBTQI, parents, etc.) and key anchor institutions (libraries, schools, workforces centers, etc.) to give short testimony (3-4 minutes). As partners and allies working with us to close the digital divide, we are hoping you can commit to this.  If so, we will offer a spokesperson training in advance of the event.

The meeting will focus on the FCC’s vital responsibility in protecting the open Internet and fostering universal broadband access across the country. As you may have heard, the agency’s ability to achieve these goals has been stymied by a recent court decision and the efforts of powerful phone and cable company lobbyists. The Minneapolis meeting is a way to remind the FCC that the public must be heard in debate right now.

Please RSVP if you would like to give community testimony.

Thank you,

Steven Renderos
