This event is a stop on the Energy Democracy National Tour 2018. The Tour is an effort to promote work being done by communities around the United States, especially by low income communities and communities of color, to develop and control renewable energy resources to meet the pressing needs of and empower their communities.

Energy Democracy brings energy access, ownership, and a voice in the decisions that affect us.

TO REGISTER for the Training: Click on "TICKETS". You can register for one or more sessions. If you're not already a member of Co-op Power, you can join Co-op Power with the first ticket listed and attend the course for free. See our website for more membership options.

WHO: This solar training program is designed for people who live in communities in New York and Massachusetts who want to learn how to bring more community-owned solar to their community. If you're from another state, you're welcome to participate, and we'll let you know when we're talking about things that just apply to NY and MA and how to get the information you'll need to apply the information to your state.

GOALS: You will learn how to identify sites in your community where you'd like solar to provide power to people in your community and to your businesses, non-profits, cooperatives and municipalities. You'll learn to work with Co-op Power staff and consultants to see if a specific location can work and get sign-off to begin a project. You'll understand how the permitting, interconnection, and installation process works and how projects are managed once they're up and running. You'll learn about the jobs that people are paid to do all along the way and learn much of what you need to know to be successful in solar community outreach and sales.

BACKGROUND: Co-op Power has just raised $10 million to provide tax equity financing for projects in these two states and we're eager to show you how you can access those funds to bring solar to people in your community, especially to people with limited resources. We've just won a competitive bid to build 2 megawatts of solar for people with limited resources in NYC. Co-op Power is a network of community energy cooperatives in the Northeastern US. We are building citizen ownership of our energy resources. We are a multi-class and multi-race movement working for justice and sustainability as part of the national and international movement for energy democracy.
