Community Service – Feed The Homeless
Is one of your New Year’s Resolutions to become more active in community service? Do you want to give back to those less fortunate? Maybe you have been wanting to volunteer with a group of well meaning people but do not know how because you are not affiliated with any political or religious organization. If so, then this is your opportunity to help make a difference.
iBlack is looking for volunteers to help us prepare and serve lunch for homeless children, individuals and families. We are working with the the St. Stephen Loaves & Fishes program which has served lunch to the hungry and homeless since 1969. Since most Washington food programs serve only on weekdays, the program offers a crucial service to its guests, some of whom travel across the city to be able to eat on the weekend.
We will start at 11:00 am at the St. Stephen kitchen to prep and serve the meals. No need to bring any supplies. Everything is provided by the St. Stephen Loaves & Fishes program include aprons and gloves. Professional chefs welcome but NO experience is required – just bring a desire to help others and roll up your sleeves
This program has made a difference in many people’s lives over the years and we hope you will join us by signing up below.
For volunteer safety, please wear closed toe shoes, comfy clothes, no tank tops, and put your hair up. Your registration also means that you understand that you are volunteering at your own risk.
Where To Meet:
Meet Behind The Church (through the parking lot) And Enter Through the Kitchen Door Entrance
St. Stephen & the Incarnation Episcopal Church
1525 Newton Street NW
Washington, DC 20010
Please note that the church we are volunteering at does not have a public parking lot. Street parking is very limited due to the number of churches in the area; therefore, plan to arrive well before 11:00 am because finding a parking space can be an issue. We suggest planning to arrive no later than 10:30 am.
The church is also accessible via Metro’s Columbia Heights station on the Green Line (approximately 7 minutes away by foot) and numerous Metrobus routes on 16th & 14th Streets.
