OSSE's Division of Elementary, Secondary and Specialized Education (ESSE), in partnership with key stakeholders, launched a Community Schools Community of Practice (CoP) in the 2016-17 school year. The CoP offers nine session for all District of Columbia LEAs to receive training and technical assistance on creating and sustaining a community school. The event is open to anyone interested, including student support specialists and community relations specialists.
Topics of discussion will consist of:
This session will focus on understanding citywide efforts on attendance and truancy and what this may mean for community schools. It will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on the Third Floor, Grand Hall Side A.
Family Engagement/Special Populations
This session will focus on family engagement in community schools, with consideration to cultural competency when engaging special populations (e.g. English learners, foster care, homeless and unaccompanied minors). It will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Bancroft at Sharpe Health School, 4300 13th St. NW.
