Description

OSSE's Division of Elementary, Secondary and Specialized Education (ESSE), in partnership with key stakeholders, is launching a Community Schools Community of Practice (CoP) in the 2016-17 school year. The CoP will offer nine sessions, beginning in September 2016 through May 2017, for all District of Columbia schools to receive training and technical assistance on creating and sustaining a community school. All trainings will be held at OSSE, 810 First St. NE.

Topics of discussion will consist of:

Partnership Building
This session will focus on partnership building (i.e. why are partnerships essential to community schools?), taking an inventory and determining needs and building a collaborative partnership. This session will also host a panel discussion opportunity for schools to learn best practices from other successful community schools. It will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on the Third Floor Grand Hall, Side A.

Attendance
This session will focus on understanding citywide efforts on attendance and truancy and what this may mean for community schools. It will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on the Third Floor Grand Hall, Side A.
