Description

Community Read: Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer

A book woven of three strands: indigenous ways of knowing, scientific knowledge, and the story of an Anishinabekwa scientist trying to bring them together in service of what matters most.

We will gather after reading the book to discuss it among friends and neighbors. The Saugatuck District Library is ready to find copies of the book for you, and have made electronic copies of the book available. You can also find the book or order it online or at Readers' World in Holland, Michigan.

Those who have read the book call it life-changing. It is such a beautiful book, readers find they want to absorb it slowly, so please give yourself plenty of time for reading before the discussion evening, but no pressure! There will be no quizzes! We just want to let the book open a discussion about our local environment, our reciprocal relationship with it, and our care of it.

WHEN: Tuesday, September 24, 6:30-9 PM

WHERE: Douglas UCC Friendship Hall, 56 Wall Street, Douglas, MI

PLEASE NOTE: The church hall holds 55 people. If there is enough interest, a large enough waiting list, we will repeat this discussion on Wednesday, September 25. So please, even if the room fills, sign on to the waiting list, and we will alert everyone right away if we have 15 or more people on the waiting list

This environmental awareness event is hosted by the DUCC Creation Justice Team. It is free and open to the public. All are welcomed here.
