Event description

Description

We send our deepest condolences to those affected by Sunday's horrific attacks in Sri Lanka. We hope tomorrow's event will provide an opportunity to highlight stories of resilience in the face of tragedy and those working tirelessly on the ground to create peace in their homes and communities across Sri Lanka.

The 26 year civil war and other violent uprisings have broken down the very fabric of Sri Lankan society; but not irrevocably. Search for Common Ground Sri Lanka and The Herstories Project founder have implemented the Community Memorialisation Project since 2015 with the hope of repairing broken relationships and restoring lost faith. It has archived 350 narratives of individuals and groups, creating a platform for multiple personal truths to coexist with official narratives of war and post-war Sri Lankan history. This multimedia archive goes beyond documentation to create opportunities for dialogue within and between communities on dealing with Sri Lanka's past to enable its citizens to aspire towards a more just and peaceful future.

Join Search for Common Ground and Dupont Underground for an exhibition of video narratives, photo essays and lessons learned from the Community Memorialisation Project and a panel discussion on the importance of memory in post conflict settings.

Exhibition: 3pm - 10pm

Panel Discussion: 6pm
