Event Details

Join us for our monthly Community Lunch on September 7 where we will explore the impact that four SVP Fast Pitch alumni organizations have made since participating in the program! Fast Pitch highlights and propels social innovation in the Puget Sound region and beyond, and photographer and SVP Partner Lisa Merrill has assembled a collection of portraits of past participants that will be featured in our gallery during the month of September. The exhibit will feature the following organizations:

We will also take the opportunity to welcome and introduce Solynn McCurdy, the new CEO of SVP Seattle to our community. Solynn is an accomplished local leader who has dedicated his career to building thriving communities. His tenure initiates an exciting next phase for SVP. SVP is committed to a bold vision of a Puget Sound where everyone thrives regardless of income or race. Such a vision calls for a leader with a deep understanding of the local challenges to achieving change, plus the ability to link individuals and organizations to co-create thriving, sustainable and just communities - and Solynn is that leader!

Lunch will be catered by Project Feast, a 2013 Fast Pitch grant recipient. On the menu:

  • Burmese Chicken Curry - spiced with sweet Burmese masala, served on rice
  • Tepsi BathenjanIraqi eggplant and potato casserole with a coriander-scented tomato sauce
  • Hummus & Pita - traditional chickpea spread made with tahini, garlic, yogurt and lemon served with pita bread
  • FatoushLettuce, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, mozzarella and fried pita croutons dressed with lemon/olive oil vinaigrette
  • BaklavaDelicate layers of buttery phyllo, walnuts and almonds, drizzled with honey syrup

About Project Feast:

Project Feast's mission is to transform lives by providing pathways to sustainable employment in the food industry, and to enrich communities through intercultural exchange.

Project Feast believes that refugees and immigrants arrive here with the potential to contribute their own unique skills and passions to the diverse and changing face of King County.

Through their hands on culinary job training program at the Ubuntu Street Cafe, Project Feast aims to build a strong, employable workforce that is ready to enter the food industry.

Their programs are dynamic and relevant to the lives of refugee and immigrant communities, and provide mentoring and hands-on learning opportunities for our participants. Graduates from their programs have the opportunity to join Project Feast's catering team.
