Event description

Description

Where there's smoke, there's fire." You've heard that familiar phrase, indicating that there is often more to a situation than it appears. As those concerned with community safety, we've learned how to not only address and respond to inappropriate behaviors, but also how to look deeper at family and community influences.

Most of us would agree that kids are typically curious about fire. There is often more than simple curiosity influencing a youth to SET a fire. That is to say, "where there’s fire, there's smoke." This conference is designed to address this often misdiagnosed and underserved population. Attendees will gain knowledge concerning the scope of youth firesetting behaviors nationwide, and learn characteristics of these youth, and their typical family dynamics. Significant risk factors that can increase the likelihood of these behaviors will be addressed. We will explore effective treatment strategies designed to help reduce and prevent these dangerous and sometimes fatal actions. The complexities influencing youth firesetting behaviors calls upon the community to work together to provide effective and sustainable solutions.
