Overview

a series of workshops giving us skills for helping ourselves and our neighbours challenge insecure housing and poor housing conditions

There will be 4 workshops over 4 Tuesdays. They are detailed below:

November 11th 6-8pm
The Leeds Homes Applictions Process: Understanding the registration process for a council house in Leeds, including medical assessments and banding categories

November 18th 6-8pm
56 days: understanding the legal framework around homelessness, and the responsibility of the local authority

November 25th 6-8pm
Know Your rights: The end of section 21, and fighting forced evictions and rent increases

December 2nd 6-8pm
Damp, Mould and Disrepair: actions to take when your landlord is shirking responsibility

Sessions will run for 90 minutes with a 15 minute break, and time for questions at the end.

We suggest a donation of £5-15 depending on your income to cover the cost of the trainers time and room hire although no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

John will be leading these workshops- he has years of experience supporting the community predominantly in and around Harehills with issues related to housing, for example he has had a lot of success in challenging the council over unfair and unethical decisions that would otherwise have left families and individuals in long term homelessness. We hope these workshops will give you practical skills to be able to support yourself, your neighbours, and community when faced with issues like homelessness and housing conditions that are causing stress and sickness.

We also hope that by attending this workshop you'll be developing a network of people who have their own knowledge of dealing with housing issues, and may be able to support each other with navigating these issues.

The venue is fully wheelchair accessible. Hot drinks and snack will be provided.
We would like to provide food to make the workshop more accessible, but cannot guarantee food can be provided at this point- we will aim to provide information about this before the 11th of November.
Please get in touch if you have accessibility needs e.g. ESOL and we will try our hardest to make the workshops as accessible as possible for you.
