Community Gathering: Love Expansion
Event Information
Description
On November 5, Speaking Down Barriers turns 5 years old, and we would love for you to come and celebrate with us! Woohoo!
What better way to celebrate the work of brave dialogue & art than with an art show, poetry showcase, a wonderful panel, and amazing food & dialogue?!
Since November 2013, Speaking Down Barriers has provided a space for the community to have dialogue around our life together across the human differences of race, class, sexual orientation, gender, national identity, and religion. Topics have included achievement gaps, educational and wealth gaps, health equity, police brutality, LGBTQ and race, privilege, oppression, intersectionality, differences of religion, and so much more.
Our very first dialogue was held in November 2013, and it was called "Spartanburg: Opportunity for All?". Black poets facilitated dialogue around classism right here in Spartanburg. Who knew then what "Poetry and Conversation" would become?!
This deep work has led us, our city, and other cities across the Southeast to connect deeper with the history we have inherited, our place in it, and how our gifts, both individually and collectively, work powerfully to transform who we are in the midst of much suffering and injustice, asking questions like:
"What is your power for transformative change?"
"Are you liberated within yourself?"
We present "Love Expansion"!
Bring a dish to share, a friend, your family, and SHARE VIA YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORKS! Thank you to all of you for your gifts in this world!
Let's celebrate healing & life!
Our mission is to provide encounters that transform our life together across differences of race, class, sexual orientation, gender, national identity, and religion. Share your voice, and bring a friend!
