Description

Urban Gardening Community Forum: Vocational Farming and the Rise of Boutique Farms (Micro Farms) in American Culture

Saturday, March 10 | 11am – 1pm

This forum will trace the growth and ultimate transformation of the “American farm” in popular imagination from an integral part of food production and the well-being of society to producers servicing niche markets. Discussion will explore how farm subsidies may have led to the disappearance of the American farm and farm families and how present social factors have supported the growth of today's micro farm movement. Are these micro farms becoming the new American farm? What are the various social, environmental, and economic consequences of such shifts?

Discussion will be followed by a cooking demonstration.

This program is co-sponsored by Derek Thomas Landscapes.
