Community Food Works: Food Handler Certification Course

Are you looking for a job in the food, hospitality or health care industry? The Community Food Works Program is a unique opportunity to gain Food Handler Certification, cooking & nutrition education and employment information. This 5-session training consists of:
Food handlers and hands-on food skills training from Public Health professionals
Food handlers certificate exam
Employment talks from past food handler participants
Where: Centre for Immigrants and Community Services - CICS Community Kitchen, 2330 Midland Ave. Scarborough
When: Wednesdays ~ March 22, 29, April 5, 12 and 19, 2017 ~ 9:00a.m.-1:00 p.m.
*attendance at all 5 sessions is needed in order to gain certification*

No Program fee, however participants must fill out an assessment form in person or over the phone to determine eligibility. *Priority given to participants who are newcomers, immigrants and/or low-income*
Language supports can be offered throughout the program.
Program Description: This certification is required for those who work in food business and focuses on learning about proper food handling techniques, temperature control, cleaning and sanitizing, inspection and legislation, and much more. Successful participants will receive a certificate in safe food handling, which is valid throughout Canada for 5 years.
This is a program offered at CICS through a partnership with Toronto Public Health. Food handler and food skills training will be led by a Toronto Public Health Inspector and Dietician.
