NAMI San Francisco and Chuck Cottrell present: Understanding SSA Disability
Join us for a practical, informative session on navigating Social Security disability benefits—especially as they relate to mental health.
This Presentation Will Cover:
-The basics of SSA disability programs
-Clarifying confusing acronyms: DI, DIB, SSI, DAC, and more
-The SSA’s definition of disability — and what it really means
-What’s required in terms of treatment and documentation, especially for mental health conditions
-Why it's still important to document physical impairments, even if they don’t prevent work
-The application process, current processing times, approval rates, and appeals
-What to expect at an administrative hearing

Speaker: Chuck Cottrell
Linden + Cottrell is a law office based in Napa, CA, which practices exclusively in the areas of Social Security Disability and private long term disability disputes. They represent individuals in Social Security disability claims from application through administrative law judge hearings and beyond. Chuck Cottrell is an attorney licensed in Washington state and admitted to represent individuals in all stages of the Social Security disability process nationwide.
