About this event
The Santa Clara County Fire Department offers the CERT Hybrid Academy to train residents on disaster preparedness skills. In the event of a disaster or public safety emergency, CERT volunteers will be able to assist their family and neighbors when first responders are not immediately available to help.
Participants will learn disaster preparedness, disaster medical operations, disaster psychology, fire suppression, light search and rescue, and terrorism awareness.
This CERT hybrid training is offered on various dates and formats. Participants must attend ALL training classes to receive a Certificate of Completion.
Academy Schedule: January 25-March 25
Classes are online once a week (9 weeks)and there will be two in-person skills day:
Online: Every Wednesday evening, we will have a Zoom meeting from January 25 through March 22. Classes are 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
Self-paced computer-based training: Participants will be assigned weekly units. All work will need to be completed before March 25th. Computer-based training is provided by the University of Utah.
Saturday in-person skills training: We will meet in-person on two Saturdays: March 11 and March 25th. On the skills days you will practice: fire suppression, search & rescue, triage, cribbing, and damage assessment. Please note: Both Saturday sessions will be from 8:00am to 1:00pm. Location will be provided on the first day of the class.
Fee: $35 fee covers the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) you will receive in this course: hard hat, gloves, eye protection, and N95 mask.
This CERT Hybrid Academy is for those who live or work in SCCFD served communities of Campbell, Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga and the surrounding unincorporated areas.
All participants are required to adhere to the current the Santa Clara County Public Health Orders.
