Join Mr. Carl Anthony, the author of The Earth, The City, and the Hidden Narrative of Race, Dr.Paloma Pavel Ph.D., the Co-founder of Breakthrough Communities, Anne Stadler, Central Area resident , author of Abundant Community-Awakening the power of Families and Neighborhoods, and Founder of StoryBridge.space, and Pastor Patrinell Wright, Founder of The Total Experience Gospel Choir.

WHO IS CARL ANTHONY?

CARL ANTHONY is an architect, regional planner, environmental justice pioneer, and a committed social activist. As the founding director of one of the nation's first environmental justice organizations, Urban Habitat, he led efforts to prod mainstream environmental movements to confront issues of race and class and to understand the dynamic intersections between them. Carl founded and edited the journal Race, Poverty, and the Environment. He led the Ford Foundation's Sustainable Metropolitan Communities Initiative and is the co-founder/co-director of the Breakthrough Communities Project, empowering grassroots communities in metropolitan areas and supporting multiracial leadership. Carl has taught at Columbia, UC Berkeley, Harvard's Kennedy School, and is currently visiting faculty at UC Davis' Center for Regional Change. He has published widely and is the recipient of numerous awards including the Trailblazer Award from the Sierra Club, UC Davis Community Engagement Award, and the Duveneck Humanitarian Award. His work has influenced the lives of thousands of American communities

WHO IS DR. PALOMA PAVEL?

Paloma Pavel, PhD, is President of Earth House Center. She is co-founder of the Breakthrough Communities Project and served as Director of Strategic Communications for the Sustainable Metropolitan Communities Initiative at the Ford Foundation. Pavel’s academic background includes graduate study at the London School of Economics (LSE) and Harvard University. Her research at LSE addresses South African Economics in the pre- and post-Apartheid eras. Her dissertation (Organizational Culture and Leadership Development) was part of a five-year study by the Carnegie Foundation on the workplace in America, which culminated in the publication Good Work. She has taught at many Bay Area institutions, including the California Institute for Integral Studies, where she co-chaired the graduate degree program in Organizational Development. Pavel is a frequent lecturer and keynote presenter nationally and internationally on the theory of living systems and urban sustainability. Dr. Pavel is visiting faculty at the University of California, Davis, where she also serves on the Regional Advisory Council for the Center for Regional Change. At MIT Press, she co-edits the Sustainable Metropolitan Communities Books series with Robert Gottlieb. Dr. Pavel is editor of the nationally recognized book entitled, Breakthrough Communities: Sustainability and Justice in the Next American Metropolis(MIT Press, 2009)

WHO IS ANNE STADLER?

Anne Stadler has more than 50 years of service in community organizing, cross-cultural peace building and leadership. She is a co-founder of Honoring Beloved Community, an initiative that is designed to reveal compassionate actions. Stadler, who worked as an award-winning television producer at KING 5, discusses the expanding culture of compassion in Seattle, as well as how to honor places and people who have contributed to reducing the impact of social and economic injustices.

WHO IS PASTOR PAT WRIGHT?

Pastor Patrinell "Pat" Wright was born in Carthage, Texas to a Baptist preacher dad and a school teacher mom. She is one of seven siblings. Being introduced to music early, she sang her first solo at the age of 3. By the time of her 14th birthday, she had taught herself to play the piano and was directing two choirs in her father's church.

In 1973, Wright founded Total Experience Gospel Choir. The choir is very well known and has traveled and performed in 38 states, on 5 continents, and 22 countries. The choir consists of persons ages 7–72. The choir has to its credits numerous awards and 7 recordings.
