Event description

Description

March is Minority Health Month and the theme for 2019 is Active and Healthy. The Minority Outreach Coalition (MOC) joins with federal, state, tribal, local, and territorial partners across the country in calling for a renewed commitment to eliminate health disparities and achieve health equity. We are requesting your presence at an upcoming Community Conversation regarding input vital to these goals. This meeting is designed to get community input on social determinants of health and health priorities in St. Mary's County.

Although MOC has taken an active approach to attending the Healthy St. Mary's Partnership coalition meetings over the past year, it is important as health advocates that we gather community input. MOC highlights the concerns of our minority communities in these meetings by addressing the health concerns of the entire county population. This endeavor is most effective when the community participates in a collaborative planning meeting such as this. MOC needs your participation to contribute to a collaborative Health in All Policies Approach. The Health in All Policies Approach includes five key elements: promoting health and equity, supporting intersectional collaboration, creating co-benefits for multiple partners, engaging stakeholders, and creating structural change.

The meeting will take place on April 26, 2019 at the St. Mary's County Health Department and will last from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Please commit to lending your expertise to this meeting. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Nat Scroggins, Director of the Minority Outreach Coalition, at 240-538-5681.
