Becoming a successful young adult – Preparing our kids for success and failure in adulthood
The life transitions youth experience from ages 14 to 21 are enormous. Every young person faces decisions, opportunities, and challenges that will require all of their personal resources. Even the most stable youth are left feeling overwhelmed and unsure as their life moves forward. As parents, grandparents, and role models while we share the excitement, we are also feel overwhelmed, worried, and helpless.
Youth and adults share the same goal: to develop resilient young people who maximize their success and can navigate and learn from the challenges and failures they encounter. How do we prepare young people and their support systems to increase the level of success as young adults?
Headway’s Community Conversation is a gathering of parents, friends, and stakeholders from sectors with diverse perspectives, all aware of and engaged in supporting young people as they transition to adulthood. Panel members will share experiences and thoughts on the opportunities, and obstacles youth face in the areas of education, employment, and independence. They will share insights on how we can help youth maintain positive, healthy connections throughout their journey regardless of where it leads. Attendees will leave with additional tools, information and support.
