Event description

Description

Nearly 10,000 children in Lincoln live in poverty. A 2016 report on intergenerational poverty from the Nebraska legislature said, “The simple fact is if you want to make tomorrow better for children, you have to make today better for parents and children.” Existing programs often consider children and their parents separately, leaving either the child or the parent behind. Two-generation, 2Gen, strategies are emerging as a promising way to address the needs of both parent and child with the goal of breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

This Community Conversation will feature Janae Bradford, MBA, PMP, Assistant Director of Family Advancement, CAP Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2009, CAP Tulsa started building workforce development for parents into their early childhood education programs with impressive results for families. We are excited to bring Janae, an Omaha native, back to Nebraska to share the CAP Tulsa story.

Former State Senator Kathy Campbell, who co-chaired the Nebraska Legislature's Intergenerational Poverty Task Force in 2015-2016, and Bryan Seck, MPA, Employment Skills Developer for Prosper Lincoln, will join Ms. Bradford for a panel discussion following her presentation.
