Community Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect
Thu, April 27, 2017, 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM EDT
**Limited number of seats available.**
In 1977, the Junior League of Tampa hosted a community conference on child abuse. As a result of that conference, a group of community members were energized to create the Community Council on Child Abuse and Neglect. That organization, now known as Champions for Children, today serves more than 45,000 individuals annually through its 11 programs. 40 years later, the two organizations are teaming up again to present a conference examining the state of child abuse and neglect prevention in Tampa Bay and the state of Florida at large.
This event, which is free and open to the public, will feature keynote speakers Mike Carroll, head of the Florida Department of Children and Families, and Charlyn Harper Brown, Senior Associate with the Center for the Study of Social Policy. Mr. Carroll and Mrs. Brown will discuss how far we've come as a community in treating and preventing abuse and neglect over the decades, as well as the primary issues we still face today and how best to tackle them.
Many thanks to the Children's Board of Hillsborough County, the Florida Department of Children and Families, and Mary Lee's House for sponsoring this event.
