Event description

Description

On September 14, 2019, Our Climate Voices and Loam will be organizing Community Call-In: Storytelling to Reimagine & Regenerate as part of a nationwide project to inspire creative climate storytelling and impactful climate action. Although the official event will be held in San Francisco at The Ruby SF, there will be sister events throughout the country!

This immersive event will comprise an afternoon workshop on ethical storytelling and an evening story share in service of collective climate action.

WORKSHOP (1 PM to 3:30 PM)

Guided by Earth Is 'Ohana Founder and climate activist Kailea Frederick and queer climate justice advocate and OCV Executive Director, Aletta Brady, this workshop with help participants (1) learn how to craft their climate stories, and (2) embody ethical storytelling.

STORY SHARE (5:30 PM to 7:30 PM)

During our evening story share, urban geographer and inclusive climate justice advocate Teju Adisa-Farrar and filmmaker and photojournalist Michael Estrada of Brown Environmentalist will share their personal climate stories. Through braiding together insight on collective action with tangible tools for creating narratives that inspire change, this story share will be a special opportunity to learn from young climate activists about what ethical storytelling looks like in practice.

In the face of staggering social injustice and climate chaos, cultivating resilience in ourselves and in our communities is a necessary skill. We hope that Community Call-In: Storytelling to Reimagine & Regenerate will connect you with the skills, in-person community, and stories to be an agent for change. We're so excited to learn, grow, and share with you all!

With a deep understanding that it is imperative we each own our own climate stories, our workshop supports young people, and directly impacted & front line communities cultivate personal climate stories embodying principles of ethical storytelling in service of climate action. It is crucially important that anyone who wants to attend the workshop can so we are opening a sponsorship program to support a young person, or someone from a front line community attend the workshop.

Scholarships to this experience are available! Reach out to Kate at connect@loamlove.com to learn more.
