Event description

Description

Gather at ICA LA for a workshop and live bread bake with artist Michael O’Malley and MOMO, his mobile sculpture-oven. Learn how to make Conchas, also known as Pan Dulce—traditional sweet bread from Mexico famous for its shell-like shape and patterned sugar coating. Participants are encouraged to bring their own dough, of any variety—to bake with MOMO—and all are welcome to enjoy the taste and smell of fresh baked bread at our communal tasting table.

Michael O’Malley was born in South Bend, Indiana, and grew up in northern California. After extensive travels, O’Malley pursued graduate studies at Stanford University, where he received his M.F.A. While at Stanford, he focused on large-scale installations that altered perceptual and social situations of the body. Since then, O’Malley’s work has focused on engaging the aesthetics and conventions that shape the built environment. His latest work extends this focus to include community and sustainable art practice. O’Malley is Associate Professor of Art at Pomona College in Claremont, California.
