Description

This one-day training will focus on building staff skills and competencies to assist individuals with disabilities to have meaningful experiences in the community informed by their interests and goals. Topics covered include an overview of how employment and day services have evolved & impactful legislation, the role of CBDS staff in supporting more meaningful inclusion, person-centered approaches and discovery to develop a personal profile, informed choice and effectively supporting individuals in the community.

Staff will learn about the:

· Progression of employment and day services and the impact of relevant legislation that continues to influence the focus of supports today.

· Role and vision of CBDS staff supporting individuals in community activities.

· Using person-centered planning and discovery processes as strategies to help individuals have a variety of experiences, and make informed choices about the activities they participate in to create a comprehensive personal profile.

· Maximizing individual’s learning so they can build their skills to move towards a pathway to employment.

· Best practices in support services in the community, including teaching tasks, building meaningful relationships and increasing independence.

Registration and networking will begin at 8:30. The training will begin promptly at 9:00. Continental breakfast will be provided; lunch is on your own
