Workshop Overview:

Journalists and the media play an important role in the information people learn about what is going on in the world. This workshop will provide insight into how journalists pick stories to report on and what researchers can do to attract media coverage to their work. We will offer tips on interview preparation and working with Baycrest’s communications department to get the word out about your work.

Workshop Objectives:

  • How the media selects stories
  • How researchers can work with media to communicate their work to a general audience
  • How researchers can explain their studies in an appealing manner
  • Ongoing trends in science media and the role of new and social media

**Please bring a notebook and pen**

Workshop Instructors:

Josephine Lim is the Research Marketing Specialist at Baycrest Health Sciences. Within her role, she works with researchers to share their work with the public and potential donors. Josephine has a Master of Professional Communication and Bachelor of Journalism from Ryerson University and has worked as a reporter at various media publications across Canada.

Jonathan MacIndoe is the Manager of Marketing and Media Relations at Baycrest Health Sciences. He has helped to ignite relationships between brands and their audiences for more than 10 years. Jonathan has a degree in Media Studies from the University of Guelph and a diploma in Public Relations from Humber College.
