Communicating Climate

Findings from the California Academy of Sciences

-Lunch Provided-

The California Academy of Sciences' Climate Change Exhibit  is recognized as one of the most innovative and effective public education installations on climate change in the U.S.  Cal Academy has deployed a team of social scientists to study visitor interactions with the Climate Exhibit since it's opening in 2009, and have discovered stunning and compelling findings on how the public engages with climate change science and sustainability-motivated behavior change.

These findings are of central importance to any business concerned with effectively communicating with employees, customers, suppliers, executive leadership and community members around the climate issue.

Find out what you've been missing in the climate dialogue, with experts who have pioneered new ways of impacting public perception to the biggest environmental challenge of our time.

Aaron Pope, Cal Academy's Manager of Sustainability Programs, will share the latest findings and best practices with BC3 members.  Cal Academy is best known for simultaneously pioneering sustainable building and environmental education in the Bay Area with their landmark green space and premiere exhibits.

Aaron Pope
Manager of Sustainability Programs

The California Academy of Sciences

Topics such as biodiversity, global warming and clean water were common around the dinner table during Aaron Pope’s childhood in Berkeley, and instilled in him a lifelong commitment to the natural world. While a student at UC Santa Barbara he helped found the student-run Environmental Affairs Board, and held several conservation internships, eventually graduating with an Environmental Studies degree. His love of the outdoors took him to Lake Tahoe, where he worked as a river rafting guide, editor and writer.  In 2001 Aaron returned to the Bay Area to pursue a career as a project manager, helping to develop educational software for young children. His environmental experience and passion led him to the California Academy of Sciences in 2008, where he now splits his time between content development and managing the Academy’s Green Initiative. He is especially interested in climate change education, and helping the museum empower and inspire visitors to protect the environment.

Aaron recently spoke to the BC3 Membership at the Spring 2010 Full Membership Meeting, hosted by the Cal Academy of Sciences.  Aaron is now back by popular demand!

Please arrive a few minutes early - the session will begin promptly at 12pm.
