Event Details

Welcome to the CommotionHackNYC: Mesh Apps Hack! Commotion Wireless, a mesh networking platform for bringing next-generation locality and connection to digital applications, is designed to make mesh networking tools cross-platform, easy to use, and quick to deploy on. Commotion is an entirely open source project from the Open Technology Institute, The Guardian Project, The Serval Project, OpenBTS, and The Work Department. Commotion makes it possible to mesh devices based on OpenWRT, Linux, Mac, Android and Windows.

For CommotionHackNYC, we are gathering hackers, mesh enthusiasts, community organizers, designers, entrepreneurs, and sensemakers to collaboratively create, design and build applications for mesh networks using the Commotion Wireless firmware and application toolkit. The Commotion team will also be on-hand to help you enable mesh for your existing project. Participants can build off of some initial applications ideas such as local mapping, chatting, collaborating, and file-sharing services. We will also organize with other participants around building networks in the New York City area (or wherever you're coming in from!), get a head start on flashing routers, strategize around engaging your community, and building sustainable networks.

Preliminary Schedule:

9AM - Coffee & Brainstorm
9:30AM - Welcome & What is Commotion
10AM - Hacks & Workshops
12:30PM - Lunch & Hack Updates
1:30/2PM - Back to hacking & workshops
