Description

Common Dreams 2019

The Common Dreams 2019 conference, Sacred Earth: Original Blessing, Common Home will be held on 11-14 July at Newington College in Stanmore, Sydney.

Our distinguished international keynote speaker will be Matthew Fox and the conference program is based around his concept of Creation Spirituality. Matthew is an internationally acclaimed spiritual theologian, Episcopal priest, and activist who was a member of the Dominican Order for 34 years. He has devoted forty-five years to developing and teaching the tradition of Creation Spirituality, which is rooted in ancient Judeo-Christian teaching, inclusive of today’s science and world spiritual traditions; welcoming of the arts and artists; wisdom centered, prophetic, and committed to eco-justice, social justice and gender justice.

Honoring all of creation as Original Blessing, Creation Spirituality integrates the wisdom of Eastern and Western spirituality and global indigenous cultures, with the emerging scientific understanding of the universe, and the passion of creativity. It is both a tradition and a movement, celebrated by mystics and agents of social change from every age and culture. It is also the tradition of the historical Jesus himself since it is the wisdom tradition of Israel.

Dr Anne Pattel-Gray will give a major public address on the Saturday evening of the conference. Dr Pattel-Gray is a recognised Aboriginal leader within Australia and internationally. She has dedicated her life to the struggle of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and she is a strong campaigner and lobbyist and deeply committed to seeking justice, equity and equal representation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Keynote addresses will be given by Prof Elaine Wainwright, Fr Rod Bower, Ro Allen, and Prof Norman Habel. Rev Dr Greg Jenks will open the conference.

There will be ten electives offered - workshops, presentations - on subjects relevant to the conference theme. Each elective will be offered twice.

The conference will place significant emphasis on how spirituality can be expressed through the arts and will feature many inspiring poets, musicians, performers, and artists coordinated by the conference Artist-In-Residence, Alexandra Sangster.
