Event description

Description

Enjoy a crisp summer night, reconnect & meet the COTE Committee, and talk about the latest repurposing efforts in Detroit!

The AIA COTE Committee invites you to 2011 AIAD Honorary Affiliate Carl Nielbock's renowned CAN Art Handworks, a metalsmithing facility that specializes in the restoration of historic architectural metalwork. The venue is a unique gem in the Detroit landscape, and the perfect setting to learn more about the COTE Committee, their efforts, and how YOU can be involved. Carl will elaborate on his current repurposing projects including The Detroit Windmills (showcasing upcycling & clean energy), Old City Hall and Bloody River Run, and lastly, highlighting the Detroit Gallery of Metals.

This music filled night, powered by an OGO (off the grid) system, includes appetizers graciously provided by Chef Alison from Capuchins Kitchen and a cash bar (of course)! The incentive for the evening: if you bike to the event, you will get a free drink ticket! How easy is that?

MORE ABOUT CARL NIELBOCK
Carlos is wrapping up a high-profile public project that involves the installation of two unique, hand-built windmills within the Eastern Market District, one will be adjacent to the Dequindre Cut entrance, and the other on the plaza outside of Shed 5. These highly flexible windmill designs, fashioned from used truck axles, satellite dishes, and other found objects and materials will power wireless internet servers and charging stations for public use in the Market - exciting stuff!
