Event description

Description

The Howard County Historical Society will focus on the centennial of “The Great War” – World War One – this October, culminating in the society’s annual dinner meeting. On October 17 at Rozzi’s Continental Ballroom, the society will host a public program to showcase WWI artifacts and re-enact the war effort put forward by Howard County citizens. The program was recently was approved by the Indiana World War I Centennial Committee to be part of the State of Indiana’s official commemoration of the war’s 100th anniversary.

In planning the program, organizers have focused on the wealth of information collected by Howard County educator and historian C.V. Haworth in his 352-page “History of Howard County in the World War” published in 1920, just two years after the war’s end. Very comprehensive, "Howard County in the World War" includes organizations contributing to the war effort and an explanation of the projects and/or donations they made. It lists all Howard County residents known to have been in military service in the war.

For more information, call the historical society office at 765-452-4314 or go to the organization’s website at www.howardcountymuseum.org . Learn more about the statewide commemoration efforts at www.ww1cc.org/indiana .
