Commemorating the dead of the Second World War – round table on the latest report from the CWGC’s Non-commemoration Programme.

The Official Historian of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), Dr George Hay, will be discussing the findings of the second report from their Non-commemoration programme, this time on the Second World War. The CWGC has undertaken a five-year global programme addressing historical inequalities in commemoration of the two world wars. Their first Non-Commemoration report, issued in 2021, identified inequalities in the way the CWGC commemorated the First World War dead of the British Empire and work has continued on the Second World War in East Africa, South Africa and Southeast Asia. Dr Talat Ahmed will give a response. PGR students and members of the general public are particularly welcome. This event is organised by the Second World War Network (Scotland) co-run by Professor Wendy Ugolini.
