Jan. 24-25: Headliner Zorba Jevon Hughes and feature Iris Benson

Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Zorba started doing comedy at the age of 16. "I couldn't get in the comedy club so I played wherever I could. Because I hit puberty early, I had a full beard and could do bars."  When Zorba turned 21, he hit his home comedy club, Comedy Caravan, and others throughout the U.S. His influences include Richard Pryor, Rodney Dangerfield, Dick Gregory and Woody Allen.  His cerebral one-liners and sagacious style of comedy has made him popular among his peers and earned him a loyal following.  Make sure not to miss the three most beautiful words in comedy: Zorba Jevon Hughes.

Iris Benson has, for the most part accomplished nothing. She is comedian because no other profession will have her and that includes drug dealing and prostitution.

The Purple Onion at Kells

Opened in the 1950s, The Purple Onion has hosted comedy legends such as Bob Newhart, Lenny Bruce, Woody Allen, Phyllis Diller and Richard Pryor. More contemporary stand up heavy-hitters like Robin Williams, Zach Galifianakis and Todd Barry have also performed at the historic comedy venue. In 2012, the club moved around the corner to Kell’s Irish Pub, keeping the speakeasy charm of an underground comedy club. Now featuring the best new talent comedy showcases in the Bay Area. Shows start at 8:30pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
