Event description
Come discover four delicious wines from Italy's fabulous islands.

About this Event

Though most of Italy's wine comes from the mainland, lesser-known varieties can be found on its overlooked islands.

Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a one-of-a-kind tasting experience through the exploration of the cultural, environmental, historical and social context of these regional wines, paired with bites carefully selected to create a distinct and unique flavor.

Come Wine with Us is a series of educational wine tastings to promote and encourage the Italian “Eno-gastronomic” tourism. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a one-of-a-kind tasting experience through the exploration of the cultural, environmental, historical and social context of these regional wines, paired with bites carefully selected to create a distinct and unique flavor.

This event is hosted by the Italian Cultural & Community Center, in collaboration with Fresco Cafe Italiano. The tasting will be led by Jon Muellner of Dionysus Imports.

Fresco Cafe Italiano:

Fresco Cafe Italiano traces its roots back more than 40 years to the city of Brescia in northern Italy. It is there that Chef Roberto Crescini began his formal training as a chef at age 14 when he entered Istituto Gastronomico Caterina de Medici. Chef Roberto spent the next 40 plus years as a chef in Italy before bringing his knowledge and skills to Houston. Chef Roberto’s concept is to rapidly serve customized authentic Italian pasta in a variety of shapes, sizes and textures to accommodate busy lifestyles. The kitchen is "true scratch" utilizing equipment imported from Italy to help prepare handmade recipes. All bread, pizza, pasta, ravioli, meatballs, sauces, dressings, and desserts are made from scratch in house daily from grains and cheeses imported from Italy. Guests may choose meals from a list of "classics" or self-create any number of pasta dishes prepared to order. Daily made fresh raw pasta and authentic Italian sauces are available to customers who want to take away and easily prepare delicious Italian pasta dishes for fresh home preparations. Catering services are also available. The key ingredient is Chef Roberto's passion. By combining all of these elements Fresco Cafe Italiano distinguishes itself by serving its guests convenient affordable real Italian dishes of quality and flavor not found elsewhere.

Jon Muellner

Jon Muellner has been building wine lists and tasting event programs across Houston for over 4 years. He works with local importer Dionysus Imports, representing a host of family-owned, terroir-driven Italian producers whose wines have received the highest industry accolades across their generations of production. Over the previous year, he has brought a number of new wines and experiences to discerning connoisseurs over the course of 23 different events hosted at local wine bars, fine restaurants, and private clubs across Houston. His favorite red grape is Nebbiolo, and also enjoys White Burgundies along with an occasional dessert wine.

ICCC is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
