About this Event

WHAT WE'LL DO

This workshop is part of Portland Textile Month.

Tired of searching Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration? Reinvigorate your surface pattern portfolio in this workshop! We’ll walk through experimental drawing exercises that generate lots of new ideas, and help you tap into your creative intuition.

We’ll also explore how collaboration can play a key role in inspiring fresh new ideas by exchanging sketches with one another, to create surface patterns informed by a variety of styles and perspectives.

At the end of the workshop, you’ll walk away with a handful of new pattern ideas inspired by the creative community around you!

MATERIALS

Paper will be provided, please bring your favorite drawing utensils!

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Bryna Shields is an illustrator and surface designer exploring themes around human connection & belonging, body image, and nature. Her creative process involves experimental techniques, mixing media, and using eye-catching color palettes that pack a punch. After designing home products for brands such as Crate and Barrel and Fred Meyer, she is now focused on ways surface design can create a meaningful dialogue within communities, and expand beyond decorative forms.
