Event description

July 21st Join us for a Networking & Listening Party honoring the legendary Garry Marshall Shider of Parliament-Funkadelic and the P-Funk All Stars who have passed on. Garry "Starchild" Shider was born July 24, 1953 and passed at age 56, June 16, 2010 from complications with Cancer. He was very instrumental in the success of Parliament-Funkadelic serving as Musical Director. Shider was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, along with fifteen other members of Parliament-Funkadelic.

During Parliament-Funkadelic performances, Shider was known for appearing in a diaper, earning him the nickname "Diaper Man." He also co-wrote many Parliament-Funkadelic songs, as well as George Clinton’s classic “Atomic Dog.” Shider was featured in Guitar Player magazine three times, appeared on many late-night shows, including “Saturday Night Live,” and has had songs included in several movies, including “Bad Boys,” starring Sean Penn. He is also the recipient of several Grammy nominations for songs such as Kirk Franklin’s “Stomp,” which was inspired by “One Nation Under a Groove.” This year George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic became the Recording Academy's (Grammys) latest Lifetime Achievement Award Honorees.

At Purple Reels Pop Up Cinema we believe in honoring our ancestors, those who have come before us. We also believe in promoting local businesses. There is power in music, the power to unify all races, generations, sexes, religions etc. WE ALSO BELIEVE that WE and YOU deserve a break today to have it your way.
