Description

Red Moon Music Project presents:

'Come O Away Human Child'

'Come Away O Human Child to the waters and the wild,

with a faery hand in hand,

for the world's more full of weeping than you understand'.

Come Away O Human Child, is a contemporary music ritual-performance created by three rebel voices Ruth Wieder Magan, Avia Gurman and Deborah Shayovitz, rooted in the deep sources of female song, joined by Niamh O’Brien on Celtic Harp. It is a musical creation of wild mystery and magic where darkness and pain can be healed.

Inspired by W.B. Yeats' iconic poem 'The Stolen Child', the performance is an exploration of ancient Irish mythology and music, Jewish female song, and the interplay between beauty and sorrow inspired by Yeats' poem. The repertoire consists of lullabies and keening songs sourced from different cultures around the world, which we believe, contain the secrets of human existence and navigate the borders of life, death and beyond.

'Come Away...' emerged as a response to the ongoing conflict in Israel/Palestine.

Israeli Women artists along with Irish musicians, urge nations to wage peace in the face of war. The piece draws on traditions from both countries, following the paths of mothers teaching their babies to navigate the darkness and pain through the lessons found in a lullaby; the performance of women Keeners, whose voices guide the community beyond bodily limitations and the paths of artists who take an active role in the formation of a healthy society.

The music of 'Come away...' weaves delicately Jewish, Christian and folk harmonies with the poetry of popular and contemporary music. It is a reinvention of the performance of sacred music by the modern female singer and offers a new perspective to integrate ancient ritual into the modern form of theatre and song performance.

Wild, suggestive, but at it's core gentle, it draws on ancient female wisdom, in hope of restoring reverence and peace to all who experience it.
