These FREE workshops will feature guest speakers on the important legal issues of running a tour on your boat or on your farm, the ways in which seafood producers can build relationships with tour operators, restaurant owners and innkeepers to enhance their respective businesses.

Workshops will cover:
What is the legal and organizational framework regarding fisheries/aquaculture and tourism? Including:

  • Vessel requirements and captain’s licenses

  • Opportunities to connect with resource people to help you get started or go deeper with your ideas.

Stories from the field:

  • Hear from fishermen and shellfish farmers involved in fisheries or aquaculture related tourism, how have they set themselves up, what has worked, lessons learned etc.
  • Learn about related efforts and opportunities underway in Maine and beyond such as Experience Maritime Maine, Downeast Fisheries Trail, Bold Coast Scenic Byway, and businesses elsewhere that can serve as models for your own great ideas.

Please Register!

The University of Maine is a designated Sea Grant College. We are one of 33 NOAA Sea Grant programs throughout the coastal and Great Lakes states. The network is a powerful resource for sharing information and solving problems.

We are focused on Maine’s coastal communities. In partnership with University of Maine Cooperative Extension, members of our Marine Extension Team work on issues of concern to Maine's coastal communities. A 25-member policy advisory committee helps identify stakeholder needs and ensures that our work is relevant to the people of Maine.

We sponsor scientific research that matters to those who depend on Maine's coastal and marine resources. Learn more about current research projects and funding opportunities.

We develop tomorrow’s marine workforce through formal and informal education programs, fellowships and scholarships.
