About this Event

Do your managers and employees know how to prevent harassment and create a safe and respectful workplace? Is your staff encouraged to speak up if they see signs of an uncomfortable work environment? Does your business have a zero-tolerance policy for workplace discrimination and harassment?

The Central Avenue BID at The STEAM Garden Entrepreneurial Center will host an interactive training called Combating Sexual Harassment in the Workplace on Thursday, March 5 at 10:00 a.m. at 279 Central Avenue in Albany. The program will cover:

  • An overview of what constitutes sexual harassment;
  • Who and what is covered under the law;
  • What is retaliation and who is protected;
  • Supervisor/Manager responsibilities; and
  • What to do if you are harassed/witness harassment.

Led by Albany County Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center Prevention Educator Rachel Wilson, LMSW, MPH, the one-hour program will begin at 10:00 a.m. and fulfills the employee portion of required training.

Every employer in the New York State is required to adopt a sexual harassment prevention policy, to provide employees with sexual harassment prevention training each year, and to retain documentation of that training. The Program will provide a certificate of completion to each attendee.

To complete the training requirements, employers must follow up with employees who attend to:

  • Provide employees with a copy of the employer’s written sexual harassment policy;
  • Inform employees of the reporting procedure specific to that employer; and
  • Answer any additional questions the employee may have regarding the policy and reporting procedure.

For more information, employers may visit www.ny.gov/combating-sexual-harassment-workplace/employers .

The program is free to members of the Central Avenue Business Improvement District, and a limited number of seats are available to the general public for $25. Reservations are required and attendance will be capped at 50. Please RSVP online, by email at ronda@centralbid.org or by calling the STEAM Garden at 518-462-4300.
