Course Description and Educational Goals:
Swords to Plowshares’ Combat to Community® training (C2C) is an accredited curriculum focusing on understanding military and veteran culture. The course material clarifies how cultural factors of military service and the toll of traumatic experiences impact veteran mental and behavioral health. We will also discuss communication approaches and de-escalation techniques and direct participants to community resources.
Learning Objectives:
After attending our C2C training participants will be able to:
- Describe at least two elements of military culture that impact veteran mental health.
- Identify at least three components of BATTLEMIND's impact on interpersonal relationships.
- Identify two barriers to VA healthcare eligibility
Instructor Information:
Victor Inzunza is a Policy Analyst with Swords to Plowshares. He presents Combat to Community® cultural curriculum and provides outreach and technical assistance to other community-based veteran services agencies. Victor graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of the Pacific and earned his MFA in writing from the University of San Francisco. Victor spent four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is an OIF veteran who served two tours of duty in 2003 and 2004.
Tyler Solorio is a Policy Analyst with Swords to Plowshares. They provide outreach and technical assistance to community-based veteran services agencies, present Combat to Community® cultural curriculum, and conduct research on an array of veterans’ issues. They graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Public Policy Studies from DePaul University. Tyler spent six years in the U.S. Army National Guard. They are an OEF veteran who deployed to Afghanistan in 2011.

Course meets the qualifications for 2 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences; and Swords to Plowshares #129138 is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for mental health professionals and service providers.
