Event description

Description

The Columbus Day Dinner is an annual event hosted by the Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council 14712 to support the Council's many charitable works throughout the year. The entire meal is donated by more than 30 of the local area's finest restaurants and bakeries, and the evening includes dinner, dessert, wine, soft drinks, music, and dancing. The proceeds from the Columbus Day Dinner benefit a variety of Knights of Columbus causes in and around the Nutley community, including providing for the needs of impoverished local families and senior citizens, children with autism, unwed mothers and their babies, and Catholic school students.

The Dinner also serves as the occasion for the Holy Family Knights of Columbus to present the Santa Maria Medal for Catholic Service and Leadership, which is the highest honor bestowed by the Council. In 2017, the Santa Maria Medal will be presented to Father John Gordon. Father John has served faithfully as Chaplain of the Holy Family Council since its founding in 2009, and he has recently been named Chaplain of the St. Isaac Jogues Assembly based in Fairfield. In addition to his priestly service to the Knights, Father John served as Parochial Vicar at Holy Family Church in Nutley for eight years before taking on a new role within the Archdiocese of Newark. Currently, he serves as the Archdiocesan Coordinator of both the Office for Evangelization and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. The Holy Family Council gratefully recognizes Father John for his priestly service, spiritual leadership, and fraternal commitment to the Knights.
