Event description


Columbus Georgia has always had a large and influential African American presence. The Liberty District was the cornerstone to the African American community. The Columbus Georgia Black History Tour is informative for anyone.

The Liberty District was a thriving with shops, offices, auditoriums, and homes. Lively music and delicious food filled the air.

The Columbus Black History Tour shares stories of national celebrities and world pioneers, such as Gertrude “Ma’ Rainey and Eugene Bullard. George Washington Carver, Alma Thomas, and Frank “The Big Hurt” Thomas who all had ties to Columbus.

The tour spotlights civil rights leaders Thomas Brewer, E.E. Farley, Primus King, and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Allow up to 2 hours for this tour.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No minimum age - However, a seat taken will need to be a seat paid.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking available at the Mildred Terry Library and at the Department of Labor across the side street from the library,

What can I bring into the event?

You can bring cameras and weather-appropriate clothing. We will step out at several locations.

What's the refund policy?

No refund for this special tour. You may however, reschedule your tour for another date provided that it's available. Your request must be made by email, or via phone, no less than three (3) days from the tour date.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You can bring your printed ticket, or have it showing on your phone.

Can I update my registration information?

Yes you may.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes it can, as long as the tour date/time matches. If you wish to change to another date or time, it must be requested at least 3 days, (7 days for groups larger than 10), before the time of the tour.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

As long as the tour date/time matches. If we have X number of paid tickets, that's the number of people will be allowed to board.
