What is this Colorful Dash?
And Frequently Asked Questions.
Is the race hard?
No, that’s no fun! Hard races aren't fun. Hard races are hard! We are a fun race with lots of super fun color. We have people walking/running, even bringing wagons or scooters for their Girl Scouts. A Colorful Dash is the best way to be healthy and have fun with fellow Girl Scouts, new friends, family, or with regular ol’average citizens who love a color run and to laugh out loud! We don’t time this race – it’s a fun run/walk for a reason.
Will there be other activities other than the actual Colorful Dash since this is the “Fall Picnic”?
We will have dancing and super fun announcements to get everyone pumped up for the fall sale. We will have a VIP tent to taste the product that ONLY paid registered Girl Scouts can enter. We will have a super awesome shopping experience and photo opportunities galore. This is a fun run and that is the major focus of this event. This is “Be your own kind of beautiful”, where you get covered in beautiful colors and laugh and enjoy and just have super fun.
What time does the “Dash” really begin?
The Dash begins at 8:30AM, but registration opens at 8am. We will release waives every 5 minutes or so. We recommend getting there 30 minutes early so you have plenty of time to park and stretch! The entire event will end around 12pm depending on the last people finishing the run.
Can I Walk?
Walking is totally cool. You will be one of many who will be walking, riding a scooter, or pulling a wagon. It’s not a race and it is non-competitive, so you won't feel any pressure to cross that finish line first – rather to laugh and enjoy.
Will there be a shop to buy cool stuff?
You know we love to bring a shop with us. Of course there will be all kinds of Colorful Dash items. Cool wigs and costumes, plus fantastic fun stuff. Bring your cookie/nutty dough along too because we will be taking that at the Colorful Dash for sure!
Who does this Colorful Dash benefit?
The Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Council, a non-profit organization building women of Character, Confidence and Courage
What's the price and how do I register?
The registration price for the Colorful Dash is;
Pre-Colorful Dash Registration Cost – pre registration ends August 26th
- $12 Registered Girl Scouts
- $27 General Admission (Non-Girl Scout)
- Onsite Registration the day of event - $35 – All people no cost break regardless of affiliation.
Can we use “Cooke Dough” or Pathway Grant Funds to pay for the Colorful Dash Registration?
If you intend to pay for any part of this registration order with GSSGC "Cookie Dough" or Juliette Pathway Grant funds, please read the following instructions! We CANNOT split payment types for registration. Anyone using GSSGC "Cookie Dough" or Pathway Grant funds must register on a separate order than anyone paying with Credit Card. In order to utilize your GSSGC "Cookie Dough" to Pathway Grant funds, you must select "show other payment options" located just under the "Order Now" button. You will then select "Pay Offline" . After you enter the registrant's information, you will find instructions and a link to the Cookie Dough/Pathway Grant Payment Request Form. Once the form is open, go ahead an click "send Invoice" to get your order #. Your Colorful Dash Registration will NOT be complete until your payment information is received and verified. You will be contacted if you owe an additional balance
What if we have new girls joining our troop and they want to pay the $12 not $27?
All people paying the “$12” fee must be registered as a Girl Scout before they register for the dash. We will be checking the names against troop numbers and personify. People found to register at the $12 but are not truly registered with Girl Scouts will be charged the additional $15 at packet pick up day and or not allowed to run. It’s girl scouting, and we live by the girl Scout law ;-) Honest and Fair.
What do I get for registering?
An awesome time at a fun and colorful 5k, you’ll also receive a pair of Colorful Dash Sunglasses, A Colorful Dash Bandana, and Swag Bag with lots of cool stuff.
How do I volunteer if I don’t want to walk/run, but I don’t want to miss out?
We'd love to have you come and help as a volunteer. Volunteers typically throw color on the participants, and/or help with registration, and clean up. There is a small cost to volunteers of $5.00, this gets you the fun SWAG too. We are looking for hard workers who like to have fun! Registration to “Volunteer for the run” will be a completely separate registration form, and you will pay your $5 at the event when you sign in. Contact the event organizer via the event page if you would like more information on the volunteer opportunities.
When is packet pickup?
Packet pickup will be held August 30th at each outbound offices. You will choose on your registration where you are picking up your packet. Please bring your confirmation ticket that was emailed to you after you registered in order to obtain your packet. You can pick up other people's packets as long as you have their confirmation ticket and signed release waivers. We will email out a reminder with the address for pick up on Thursday August 29th.
What is included in my Colorful Dash race packet?
Your race packet will contain:
- Colorful Dash race number – that’s your ticket in
- Colorful Dash Goodies
What if I can’t drive all the way to the locations?– It’s not fair we have to drive.
Well then get on the bus Gus! We will have buses leaving from each office at 7:30 am on Colorful Dash Day. Signups to ride the buses will take place at packet pick up day on August 30th. There is an extra fee to ride the bus of $5 per person– cuz we have to pay for the bus, and heck that’s cheaper than paying for your own gas anyways. Please note if the buses do not have a minimum of 30 riders per region, they will be canceled.
What if I don’t get my packet at Packet pickup day?
I guess you are starting the Dash later than 8:30. We will not be doing any “early” packet pick up on the day of the race – we will be registering last minute Nelly’s new to the race at 8am with late packet pickups starting at 9am. Not to worry, it’s not a race, so at 9:00am we will be opening up the packet pick up for those who pre-registered.
Can I refund my registration?
Bummer, No. Unfortunately it’s impossible for us to offer refunds. You can still pick up your packet and race goodies, or you can transfer your registration to someone else.
Can I transfer my registration?
Yes! You can transfer your registration to someone else. In order to to transfer registrations, you need to give that person your race number – they will need to turn in a new waiver at race day check in.
Is there an age limit?
No way! Everyone is welcome to come have tons of colorful fun at the Colorful Dash! Just remember that anyone 5 and older needs to pay a registration fee! Strollers, and wheelchairs are welcome! We do recommend that your kids are properly protected with sunglasses, and for toddlers and infants, maybe even something to cover their mouth. The powdered paint is non-toxic and made mainly with corn starch, but it could irritate the smaller ones more than us.
Can I take pictures, film video post to my Facebook/ Pinterest or Snapchats?
Of course! We will also have a couple photographers on hand! If you do bring your camera, phone, video camera etc…we suggest keeping it in a plastic bag to keep the dust out! We will not be held liable for a phone full of cornstarch. Of course your registration is also a photo release, meaning we can use your photos as well for publicity purposes.
Are tag-alongs or non-girl scouts allowed?
Yes, everyone loves to get colorfied . Kids 4 and under are free, but will not receive any of the SWAG. All others participants merely need to register under their category, (e.g. Registered Girl Scout Girl/Adult e.g. a girl scout, troop leader/troop coordinator or registered parent. Or General Admission “ Everyday citizen” just signing up for the fun.) All participants, paid or not, must have a release waiver signed by a parent/guardian and turned in before they are allowed to participate. The waiver for free participants 4 and under can be obtained and signed at the event.
What should I wear?
You can wear whatever you want but we suggest white clothing because it shows up the color the best! Costumes are super fun, troop uniforms are NOT suggested – leave those sashes and vests at home!
Can I wear costumes?
You know we love a tutu or anything else you come up with! The whiter the better! Official Colorful Dash T-shirts will be for sale in all of our Retail Girl Scout shops beginning in late August, for $10 if you would like an official race t-shirt – while supplies last ;-)
What is the color made of?
The color powder we use is custom manufactured and produced right here in the United States. It is made from food grade quality cornstarch using an advanced manufacturing process that has been custom developed for the “Color Race Series”. It is non-toxic, is 100% safe, and also biodegradable. As with any substance, you will want to keep it out of your eyes and lungs. If you are overly sensitive, you may want to wear glasses or goggles for your eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for your mouth. (This is especially recommended for our younger runners/walkers)
Will the color stain my clothes, shoes, or makeup?
If you want a lot of color to hit your shirt, plan to run or walk closer to the color throwers. If you want only a little bit of color, run or walk in the center. If you want to preserve the color in your shirt, spray it with vinegar and iron it before you wash it. The color does mostly wash out after the event, but some of it can stain. As with anything, the sooner you wash it the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn't mind getting the color on.
Will the color get in my car?
Bring a towel or some plastic bags along, and you’ll be just fine. However, if you do get some in your vehicle, it can be dusted away or vacuumed easily.
Can people come to cheer or watch the Colorful Dash?
Most definitely they can come be a part of the craziest color day of your life! Just be sure to give them a big hug at the finish line for coming to support you! :) Those just coming to watch will not have access to the VIP tent – so if you are just coming to watch, there are no fees. If you want to dance and taste and enjoy without the running, you still need to register and pay to “play”.
Can we bring pets?
Nope! Pets (anything non-human that poops) are not eligible to participate in the Colorful Dash. Unless of course it’s a working animal with full access – but they are going to get colorfied.
Is this event open to the public – how can that be safe?
Safety is always a main concern hence why we utilize safety ratios IE if you go anywhere as a "troop" you must have a certain number of adults to watch your girls or if you come as an independent, you must bring a guardian. At the Fall Colorful Dash we will have well over 100 GS volunteers running the event plus most of council staff and we hired CSUSB campus security to lend a hand. But at the end of the day it is the responsibility of the leader and or the parent to make sure their children are safe. We are looking to have a crowd of roughly 5,000 people vs. a traditional color run with a field of 30,000 so our event is still going to be very exclusive and small but that doesn’t mean people don’t have to be watchful. Run/ walk together – that’s way more fun because it’s not a race it’s an experience. Attend the VIP tasting together and discuss goal setting – as a troop. When we do things together its way more fun and certainly safer.
